Things He Said Today
By Joe Johnson, Beatle Brunch Host

"Happy New Year Beatle peetles", he said in his most sarcastic John Lennon voice. I think you can lump me into the huge mass of people, many rock and roll Beatle fans, who were happy to see 2016 slide down the pole to the swamp.

Can you believe how many rock & pop superstars we lost in 2016? Bad enough that some of our heroes like John Glenn and Mohammed Ali left us, but a full orchestra of musical brilliance was silenced too. The architect of The Beatles sound and often called "the true Fifth Beatle", George Martin admitted that he'd lived a good life, then folded up his sheet music to spend more time with his family. He died in March.

I was lucky enough to photograph him pulling out of Abbey Road Studios in 1995.

But the band played on. It then summoned David Bowie, Prince, Glenn Frey, Leon Russell, Paul Kantner, Greg Lake, Keith Emerson, Bobby Vee, Merle Haggard, Leonard Cohen and Maurice White, then called upon George Michael to lead a Christmas hymn, and this past week, two men instrumental in The Beatles' early success, Sam Leach and Allan Williams were also called home.

The Great loss of musical life gives off a bit of a glow from the goodness that brushed by it last year. The first U.S. artist signed to The Beatles' Apple Records label in 1968, James Taylor, was awarded The Kennedy Center Honors in December. James admitted lifting the line "I feel fine anytime she's around me now" for his song "Something in the way she moves", while trade-about is fair play, he was honored to look the other way when he heard George Harrison sing that song's opening line, "something in the way she moves" in his new song from Abbey Road. "After all," James told CBS last month, "I wanted to be George Harrison".
My Sweet Lord, let's all try to be Fab in 2017.

Congrats to Our Monthly Winner!

Our monthly BBC winner, Joseph Palaganas from Alexandria VA's favorite quote is from John, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans".

Well this month, Joe will be busy wearing his new Post Fab Tee from Dan, at www.postfab.com. Joe's our monthly Beatle Brunch Club winner, and got his choice of one of Dan's works of art featured
in our spotlight page.

Congrats Joe and Happy New Year. As Rod once said, "You wear it well".

A Few Closing Words from Tom Frangione:

Friends -

As we close out a pretty rough year in terms of losing folks from the Beatles story, the latest being their early manager Allan Williams, I thought I'd share this picture from when I first met him at the Liverpool convention back in 1983, on my first ever trip to the mother-land.  Time it was, and what a time it was, it was...  RIP Allan.

Wishing you all good health and much happiness in the new year....
