Things He Said Today
By Joe Johnson

Wow, what an incredible start to the beginning of our 25th year of Beatle Brunch. I welcomed in Summer and year 25 by being one of the hosts and emcees of my first visit to the FABulous music festival, "Abbey Road on the River", where I met and interviewed dozens of Beatle tribute bands and personalities legendary in Beatles lore, among them, Prudence Farrow, for whom John's "Dear Prudence" was written. I had two hour-long sessions with Prudence and I've posted the second one on our Soundcloud page here

I also had the opportunity to welcome the two founding members of The Zombies: Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, huge Beatle fans who entertained us in the discussion room with Fab stories, then jammed a few of their favorite Beatle tunes live on stage in Louisville. They were selling signed copies of their new CD "Still Got That Hunger" (below) so of course, I had to have one.

The cool news is The Zombies will be joining me and several thousand 60's music fans on board The Flower Power Cruise II, sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale February 27th on the Celebrity Summit, along with Micky Dolenz, Chad and Jeremy, The Animals, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Yardbirds, Vanilla Fudge, Fifth Dimension and dozens more. Click here to register to WIN the cruise for two with r/t airfare (no purchase necessary). You can book it first, then if you should happen to win the cruise, StarVista Live will reimburse you for the value of the cruise, so it's a win-win-hope I win situation. Can't wait to be back on board as Music Host and I hope you'll join me. And of course, keep checking in with The Brunch for details on next year's Abbey Road on the River. Gary Jacob and the crew are just crossing the Ohio River and parking the festival on the Indiana side, so I hope to meet you there too next Memorial weekend.

You may have noticed a little tweak to Beatle Brunch over the past few months. We decided to freshen and broaden the playlist of the show to include artists like Micky Dolenz and The Monkees, Billy Joel, Brian Wilson & The Beach Boys, and even tribute bands like The Weeklings, The Fab Faux and The Jukebox, plus many others. The idea is that all of these artists bring their own Beatle interpretations and perspective on the band to all of us, so we've added that new layer to The Brunch, which we've casually nicknamed the show, and it seems to be catching on. We're always open to suggestions and frequently throw ideas out to you on our Beatle Brunch facebook page, so if you haven't "liked" it yet, please do so here.  And special thanks to Cait who's been doing a fab job posting great Beatle content for us on social media!

There's lots of great Beatles news too with the retooling of The Cirque du Soleil show "LOVE" in Las Vegas. The Beatles have posted a video version of LOVE's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". You can check it out here. Meanwhile, we're anxiously awaiting Ron Howard's Beatles directorial effort, "Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years". Here's the official trailer. The film hits cinemas in September and then will have a showing on Hulu. Seems like September would be a great time to get that trial Hulu membership. As the Happenings say, "See you in September" .

So while Paul takes a holiday break from promoting his Pure McCartney collection and his One on One tour, and Ringo wraps up his summer All Starr Band tour, don't forget to honor Ringo's wish for his "spirit of turning '76" birthday on Wednesday July 7th. If you haven't heard, it's here, there and everywhere, click here for a start.

Peace and Love from Beatle Brunch. Have a Fab Summer.

Blackbirds & Bulldogs Can Win "Pet Sounds" on The Brunch

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest albums of all time. It's The Beach Boys' iconic "Pet Sounds" album. Brian Wilson has said that The Beatles' "Rubber Soul" album inspired him to write and record it. Then The Beatles, upon hearing "Pet Sounds", were so equally inspired, they rebounded with "Sgt Pepper". It's a reciprocal love fest that continues to pay musical dividends to this day. In addition to hearing a tribute to it on The Brunch with Joe Johnson, July 10th, "wouldn't it be nice" to win the Pet Sounds 50th Collector's Edition 4CD/Blu-ray set from Universal Music as a prize in our Mind Games Contest?
