Things He Said Today
By Joe Johnson
Welcome to another Beatle Brunch newsletter. I hope the New Year has been Fab for you so far. For our Brunchers, we’re finalizing and tweaking our newly merged and redesigned website, incorporating our classic Beatle Brunch site, with the Beatle Brunch Club, so that members only have to go one place to click onto their favorite parts of Beatlemania. It’s been a long time, now we’re coming back home!

As we enter the month of February, did you know that it’s quite possibly THE most important month in Beatles history? Just take note of some of what important Beatle events took place in Fab-uarys past:

We all know that the first week of February 1964, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was the number one record in the country. A few days later, February 7th, The Beatles landed at Kennedy airport and kicked off screaming Beatlemania that was unparalleled in the universe at that time. Two days later, they set a record for television viewership, with 73 million people watching their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, which we’re featuring this week.

On February 8th, 1958 Paul introduces George to John where they played together later that night as The Quarrymen, then two weeks later, George turned 15! Imagine!

In February of ’63, The Beatles release their first single in America, “Please Please Me”, on the 11th, they recorded the entire album in just one day. Exactly one year later, they played their first official concert on U.S. soil, in Washington, DC.

Some of the more important songs recorded in Februarys (OK, they’re all important!), besides the “Please Please Me” album, were “A Day in the Life”, “Sgt Pepper” and “Lady Madonna”. “She Loves You” goes Gold in ’63, and “Yellow Submarine” got its Gold in February of ’68. A year later, the Boys begin work on the “Help!” soundtrack of songs, and then three years later, seem to give it all up for a cleansing trip to India, returning with 40 new songs to record, and of course, they won nearly all of their Grammys, together and solo, usually in Februarys past. Oh, and in a few days, Paul’s new CD, “Kisses on the Bottom” will be on top, we hope, as he performs at this year’s Grammys show.

So you see, I could take up your entire computer screen with Fab Febuary events in Beatle history, but, you can’t do that, however I CAN encourage you to listen the weekend of February 18th, when we highlight Fab-uarys in Beatle history.

So welcome to a banner month in Beatle history, see the Beatle Brunch Show Schedule below, and remember, that if you miss a show, you can always listen ON DEMAND if you're a Beatle Brunch Club member. We have shows going back to September 2011.

Leap Into a Month In His Life
By Vanessa Fazio Pasquariello
February is sure shaping up to be a busy month for Sir Paul McCartney: his much-anticipated new album, "Kisses on the Bottom," is scheduled for release in the UK on February 6th and the US on February 7th. On February 9th, McCartney is celebrating the release of his new album with an intimate concert in Hollywood. He will be honored as the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year at its 22nd annual benefit gala on February 10th. Then, McCartney is back in the spotlight on February 12th, performing at the 54th Grammy Awards show. The 14-time Grammy winner's deluxe reissue of "Band on the Run" is also nominated for Best Historical Album. And that's only the first half of February! With it being a leap year maybe he'll even make time for a tour.

The Guitar Collection
Article by Chris M. Junior, UltimateGuitar.com
‘The Guitar Collection: George Harrison’ is a joint project from George's estate and Bandwith Publishing. The app which will cost $9.99 features 360-degree imaging by photographer Steven Sebring that allows users to see each item from the private collection in great detail. The stories behind each guitar — the circumstances of their acquisition and the significance of the modifications Harrison made — are well documented. Adding to the app’s appeal are Harrison songs that are categorized by the guitars he used on each recording, as well as Harrison audio clips that serve as introductions to many of the instruments. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, as well as Harrison’s son, Dhani, are among the musicians who are featured in the app’s video section playing some of the guitars. Octopus' 8 Cruisin' In Style
Submitted by BBC'er Carol Ghesquiere
I'd like to be above the sea
On a Beatle Tribute Cruise ship in the shade
Joe'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his Beatle Tribute Cruise ship in the shade
I'd ask my friends to come and see
A Beatle Tribute Cruise ship with me
I'd like to be above the sea
In a Beatle Tribute Cruise ship in the shade
We would be warm above the storm
In our little hide-away above the waves
Resting our head in the ship's bed
In a Beatle Tribute Cruise ship near a cave
We would sing and dance around
Because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be above the sea
In a Beatle Tribute Cruise ship in the shade
We would shout and dance about
To bands that play beneath the stars
Oh, what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
We would be so happy, you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be above the sea
In a Beatle Tribute Cruise ship with you

Ringo On Letterman
Ringo has insisted that he has no plans to retire. He recently told USA Today that he doesn't need to stop performing in order to enjoy his golden years. "As long as I can hold the sticks, I can play. I joke that I'll end up in a blues band and play very, very slow." Or he can always do guest appearances on Late Night With David Letterman; like tonight, don't miss it.
