Pattie Boyd liked talking with Joe and you will too, January 5, 2012 at 7PM Eastern Time. Here's a good excuse to try out The BBC for a month; it's only a few bucks and the popcorn is free! Where else can you meet your favorite radio star, but only if you belong to The Beatle Brunch Club. Join Today!

Things He Said Today
By Joe Johnson
As I say “Goodbye” to 2011 and you say “Hello” to 2012, this promises to be a year of transition for The Brunch. For one, our redesigned website will combine a classic Beatle Brunch touch with a hint of culture and finesse from The Beatle Brunch Club. Our new webbie, Peter, is making it more user-friendly, giving members the ability to not only listen to, but download Beatle Brunch each week to their desktop, iPod or mobile device, while our graphic artist, the amazingly talented Anthony Parisi, is giving our site a FABtastic updated look and feel. It’s such a pleasure to have these talented guys on board! We would also like to say an affectionate Goodbye to our FABulous friends and associates, Deb and Rob Korhonen of Art & Soul Graphics, who for 10 years managed our website with Beatle passion and Love, Love, Love; they put their Heart and Soul into it. They will always be a part of The Beatle Brunch Family. And yet another warm Goodbye to Eric Prigge of Monolithic Internet Solutions who gave us a home as our Internet Service Provider. He was instrumental in making The Beatle Brunch Club possible and he too will always be welcome. Sunset doesn't last all evening ... all things must pass.

Coming soon this month BBC members will have a way to upload pics and stories on a redesigned Photo Page, much like Facebook (minus Farmville and virtual beers), and every so often, we’ll open up our celebrity chats to our entire Beatle Brunch Family so they can experience the camaraderie of The Beatle Brunch Club community.

As far as continuing the tradition of new Beatle happenings, Paul says there’s NO chance of him retiring from touring, he just loves the road too much! Paul closed out his fall tour in Liverpool in December, where he treated fans to some “new” old songs and a loving tribute to his mates. We thoroughly enjoyed the George Harrison HBO film and book, and look forward to the deluxe DVD release in the states this Spring. Ringo’s wrapped his first European tour and his new CD is just weeks away. Hopefully we’ll have more from the Lennon camp (it was a quiet 2011 for the Sr. Lennons). Meanwhile, Julian’s new book and CD are getting great reviews. And did you know that James McCartney (Paul’s son), has a new EP of songs out, while Dhani Harrison’s group, “Thenewno2” is also releasing new music?

We appreciate all the support we received from partnering publishers and authors of the many newly released "Beatles Books" this past year. We read many memorable chapters that entertained us, enlightened and satisfied our thirst for more Beatles.

The Beatles Tribute Cruise 2011 was a brilliant, week-long holiday made possible by Music In M'ocean's Angela DeDomenico and her team of experts where extraordinary performers, all friends of The Beatles, came together and played to a faithful group of Beatle Brunch fans. Almost a month away from now we'll be heading out to sea once again, this time on The BTC 2012 for another mind-blowing week of Beatles fun. Oh my my how the year flies by.

On a personal note, I’m now single for the first time since 1998, not an easy transition, but I am look forward to “Starting Over”. Hey, didn’t each of The Beatles have to pass through at least one serious relationship to find “The One”? While some might say, “Not a Second Time”, I’m welcoming new adventures for the new year and hope my travels include seeing you in The BBC!

Here comes 2012. Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Yeah!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Joe J.
Beatle Brunch Host

Macca Says Bottoms Up
Paul's catchy title, "Kisses On The Bottom" is taken from the lyrics on cut #7 of his new CD due out February 7th. He hopes that two originals, "Only Our Hearts" featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica and "My Valentine" with Eric Clapton (which can be found on the Downloads and Articles Page of The Beatle Brunch Club, also heard on the January 8th Beatle Brunch Show) will become standards down the long and winding road. The compilation contains several traditional standards like “Always”, “Paper Moon”, and "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter". This new CD marks the first time Paul has released an album in which he plays no instruments. He is also backed by Elvis Costello’s wife Diana Krall

Speaking about the new collection, Paul said: 'When I kind of got into songwriting, I realized how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them. I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter, I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those songs."

The CD was streamed last week online and garnered glowing reviews. Most don’t expect the CD to be a chart topper, but you never know.

Here’s the track listing:

  1. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter (Alhert/Young) 2:36
  2. Home (When Shadows Fall) (Van Steeden/Clarkson/Clarkson) 4:04
  3. It's Only a Paper Moon (Arlen/Harburg/Rose) 2:35
  4. More I Cannot Wish You (Loesser) 3:03
  5. The Glory Of Love (Hill) 3:45
  6. We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me) (Dorsey/Robertson/Mysels) 3:22
  7. Ac-cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive (Arlen/Mercer) 2:31
  8. My Valentine (McCartney) 3:14
  9. Always (Berlin) 3:49
  10. My Very Good Friend The Milkman (Burke/Spina) 3:04
  11. Bye, Bye Blackbird (Henderson/Dixon) 4:26
  12. Get Yourself Another Fool (Forrest/Heywood) 4:42
  13. The Inch Worm (Loesser) 3:42
  14. Only Our Hearts (McCartney) 4:21

Macca Doubles 2011
From: The Macca Report & The Sun (UK)
Sir Paul can now afford to shop at Whole Foods everyday!
The former Beatle has almost doubled his earnings in the past year. His income for 2011 is £29 million ($45 million), compared to £16.4 million ($27 million) in 2010.

Paul’s company made a pre-tax profit of £12.8 million ($20 million), up by more than £9 million ($14 million) from the year before.

Even though he earned a fair whack more this year, Macca hasn't been splashing the cash.

Company reports show he paid himself an income of just £1million ($1.5 million) this year, compared with £6.7million ($10.5 million) of salary and dividend payments in 2010.

A source said: "Macca must have picked up a few lucky coins in the past couple of years. Not only has he got married to a lovely lady, he's also had a hugely successful world tour and brought out another album."

With an album of standards due out in February, don't be surprised if his earnings shoot up further.

Ringo In The New Year
It’s January, so it must be time for a new Ringo album! His upcoming CD, “Ringo 2012”, the 17th solo studio record, is due out January 30. Ringo’s very careful not to release any material when people would actually be looking for gifts to buy the Beatle Fan in their life. That being said, there’s no danger of stores running short of supply, that’s the good news.

Ringo’s new CD will release in the U.S. Jan. 24 on Hip-O / UME.
Here is the track listing:

  1. Anthem
  2. Wings
  3. Think It Over
  4. Samba
  5. Rock Island Line
  6. Step Lightly
  7. Wonderful
  8. In Liverpool
  9. Slow Down

Two of the songs, “Think it Over” and “Rock Island Line” are covers and two, “Wings” and “Step Lightly” are new versions of Ringo’s own songs. The CD was recorded at his Los Angeles home studio on Pro Tools, then mixed at his home studio near London. Guests on the new CD include Michael Bradford, Ann Marie Calhoun, Matt Cartsonis, Steve Dudas, Charlie Haden, Amy Keys, Kelly Moneymaker, Richard Page, Van Dyke Parks, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dave Stewart, Bruce Sugar, Benmont Tench, Joe Walsh , Don Was and Edgar Winter. No Mark Hudson, he’s been out of the Ringo loop for a few years now. But you can meet Mark in person on our Beatles Tribute Cruise, which leads to this next article:

Cruising With Beatle Leg-Ends and Legends!

Our annual Beatles Tribute Cruise is almost fully booked and ready for a sky of blue and sea of green, sailing from warm Fort Lauderdale on February 4th. Beatle Brunch Host Joe Johnson will be Captain of The Beatle Boat festivities along with some ol’ pals: Original mate of George and Paul’s, Tony Bramwell will be on board to share a story or two (and a frosty beverage no doubt), regaling us with tales of The Cavern and the early Beatle days, segueing into the song films he made for The Beatles, beginning with “I Feel Fine”, right up to “Penny Lane” and “Hello Goodbye”. Tony was also the producer of The Beatles at Shea Stadium, and he’ll no doubt share his version of the film and memories with us.

Also on board this very musical cruise, will be former Wings member and two-time Grammy winning star Laurence “L J” Juber, whose finger style guitar playing will mesmerize you. L J will offer his legendary one-on-one guitar lessons (for a small fee). Learn tips from one of the best. You can also pick up L J’s Beatles, Wings and original CD's on board.

Wanna hobnob with the colorful (not just his beard) personality of music producer, singer songwriter and TV celebrity, Mark Hudson? You can do it! Having written hit songs for Aerosmith and Celine Dion, Mark is offering a song-writing class on board, plus he’ll no doubt perform with L J and Revolution on the ship. Mark is by far, the most fun, far-out musician you’ll ever meet.

Speaking of Revolution, one of the country's premiere Beatle bands, joins us for a full week of concerts and lectures. Led by Tim Piper, a Lennon sound-alike and look-alike, Revolution will join us for our “unplugged” Beatles show commemorating The Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the anniversary of which will take place the week of our cruise (February 9th). Plus, Tim Piper will treat us to a solo performance from his Lennon show. Imagine Tim as John, it’s incredible.

There are only a few last minute cabins still available. Call Angela at Music N’ M'ocean, 877-291-1952.

Welcome Home
It's an appropriate time for a new release by BBC'er Shannon who sings lead, plays bass, keyboards, percussion and also wrote the words and music for "I'll Leave A Light On (For You)". Sharing writing credits, playing guitars and handling back-up vocals is semi-legendary artist, Lou Pucci and together they create an imaginative sound to refresh today's American music scene. 'Tis The Season For You ... For You To Be Gone. We're Gonna Drink To You Till The Break Of Dawn. Let the simple message act as a toast to a new year filled with peace, love and happiness.
BBC'er Jorie Charts
This just in by Northwest Indiana Times, Tom Lounges, who writes: "As the local music columnist for the Times, a lot of regionally produced music visits my stereo each year, some bad, some good, some exceptional. What follows is my personal Top 10 of Chicagoland releases for 2011. Coming in at the number 7 spot is THE PONDHAWKS on Riverpool Records, produced by Mario Novelli and Jorie Gracen."
