The Next 10 Members Who Sign Up

BBC Member Sign Ups will receive Dave Schwensen's personally autographed book, The Beatles In Cleveland.

As John Lennon once said, "You had to be there." Well, Dave Schwensen has created the nearest thing to actually witnessing the Cleveland concerts and it's a worthwhile contribution to the growing canon of works about the greatest rock group of them all.

Captures the excitement, hysteria and even the terror of being in the middle of an amped-up mob whose only goal was to get a piece of the Fab Four. Not bogged down with minutia, this entertaining book takes you on a journey that encapsulates the live Beatles experience from all perspectives. A must read for old and new fans alike.

Dave Schwensen did the impossible. Through his writing he took my mind from the California coastline to Cleveland and made me enjoy it. I was mainly skeptical that he could write a whole book about a single happening - the two Beatle concerts in said city and hold my interest. Not only did he accomplish both impossibilities, he totally drew me into the whole experience and gave me new insight into something I thought I knew something about.

2009 marks the 45th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America. And what a better way to celebrate than with a top-notch, luxury cruise by Silversea with Joe Johnson for a Beatle Brunch voyage August 26, 2009 to September 5th on board The Silver Cloud.

We hope to see our fans take advantage of an extraordinary, all inclusive cruise from London and traveling throughout the British Isles for 10 days. The intimate and elegant ship, Silver Cloud has limited availability accommodating only 296 guests. The up-scale, European service is exceptional. The suites are spacious … all with ocean views and most with private verandas. There are 3 gourmet open seating restaurants with some of the finest chefs known to mankind. Complimentary fine wines, champagne and spirits abound. Each guest will receive $500.00 ($1,000.00 per suite) on-board credits to spend in the shoppes, shore excursions or in the spa. Must we mention the excellent on-board entertainment? All transportation and transfers are included … why, the airfare from select Eastern US cities is included (see the list of 25 FREE East Zone Cities + others with small fees) ... as if that weren’t enough, the fare includes all on-board gratuities! Visit for more information.

Silversea Cruises is recognized as an innovator in the luxury segment, offering guests large-ship amenities aboard its intimate, all-suite vessels: Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper -- and launching in December 2009, Silver Spirit -- all designed to offer an atmosphere of conviviality and casual elegance. With the addition of the regal expedition ship Prince Albert II, the company's itineraries encompass all seven continents.
In the U.S., Silversea has been voted "World's Best" by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler (nine times) and Travel + Leisure (seven times), and rated Number-One luxury cruise line by high-net-worth consumers in the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI). International awards include "World's Leading Luxury Cruise Line" from World Travel Awards (2007) ; "Five Star Diamond Award" from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (2009); "Number One" small-ship line in the Readers' Choice" survey conducted by Britain's Condé Nast Traveller magazine (2007); "Best Luxury Cruise Line" by Spain's Cruceros & Destinos magazine (2008); "Best Luxury Cruise Line" by Australia's Luxury Travel & Style Magazine (2009); and "Best Luxury Cruise Operator" according to Asia's Travel Weekly (2008).

Some Upcoming Beatles Snacks
On The Brunch!

We hope you enjoyed our Fab Four Flip Sides show this past weekend. It’s always nice to flip the pillow over to the cool side after heating up the front for so long. That’s exactly what deejays in the 60’s did. When a new Beatles single was wearing out, or they just wanted new material, they’d flip over to the B side for songs like This Boy, I’ll Get You and I Saw Her Standing There. And as we flip the calendar over again this week, we’ve got a nice selection of up and coming Beatle Brunch programs.

The Beatles In India: In the spring of 1968, the boys went to Rishikesh to study with the Maharishi Mahesh yogi. Much to our pleasure, they returned with 40 new songs, many of which ended up on the white album.

Please Please Me: Ne’er has a more productive 10 hours of studio work been done, than what was accomplished on February 11th, 1963. The Beatles recorded 10 songs for their upcoming 14 song album in less than a day. Five weeks later it was in the stores and the boys were well on their way to Fabdom. It’s the songs and stories of the Please Please Me LP.

We’re Number One! The Beatles shouted that from the mountain top 20 times in their career. We’ll take you to the toppermost of the poppermost once again for Beatle Number Ones, including their domination of the top 5 on the chart.

Requests From The Fest: Join me in the Meadowlands for the 35th Annual Beatles Festival in the New York metro area. I’ll be hosting Beatles Trivia, Name That Beatle Tune, plus taking your Beatle Brunch requests on The Brunch microphone and on video for the AfterBrunch. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Paul McCartney Rocks “THE JOINT”

By Bruce Spizer

Macca’s latest strategy of playing a series of one-shot shows as opposed to a prolonged tour may disappoint many fans, but those fortunate enough to catch him live are rewarded with fresh and sometimes better performances.

This doesn’t diminish Paul’s energy level, musicianship or voice on recent tours, but let’s face it, any performer will sing better when not worn out by the rigors of the road. "The Joint" is part of the $800million expansion at Hard Rock. Paul ’s April 19, 2009 concert at The Joint in Las Vegas exemplified the thrill of seeing McCartney at his best. His two hour twenty-four minute concert was full of high energy performances of the songs fans expect him to play, plus a few surprises. The show was held two nights after his triumphant appearance at the Coachella music festival in California and had nearly the same set list.

Yes, I'm Gonna Be A Star!
The Hollywood Walk of Fame just got more famous as now two of Rock’s Legends are once again just steps from each other.

On Tuesday, April 14, George Harrison received his star on the Walk of Fame, at 1750 N. Vine Street, right in front of the Capitol Records tower and just a few steps from his old friend John Lennon’s star. The 2,382nd star on the most famous sidewalk in the world is a tribute to the caring person and outstanding musician and composer we all love so much: George Harrison.

Beatles Chart Topping Record
“Still Standing There”

As we look back on Beatles history again in this newsletter, remember when The Beatles held the Top 5 positions on the Billboard music chart? It’s a feat not likely to be duplicated, even by the Fabs themselves.

For the week ending April 4, 1964, Beatles songs were in positions 1 through 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 record chart (see chart*), plus the boys held 7 more spots in the hot 100 that week, “I Saw Her Standing There” (#31), “From Me to You” (#41), “Do You Want to Know a Secret” (#46), “All My Loving” (#58), “You Can’t Do That” (#65), “Roll Over Beethoven” (#68), and “Thank You Girl” (#79). The Beatles stayed at number one on the chart until May 9th, when a non-Beatles song took the number one spot for the first time since February 1st, ending The Beatles 14-week monopoly. The song that finally squeaked to the top? Louis Armstrong’s rendition of “Hello Dolly”.

Upon closer examination of the chart, you can see that the top 5 songs were on four different record labels, all competing for a slice of The Beatles honey pie: Capitol, Tollie, Swan and Vee Jay. Eventually Capitol would win the record wars and all future Beatle tunes put out in the U.S. would be released by this American label, until Apple sprung up in the spring of 1968, with the first release, “Hey Jude”, which lived at the top for 9 straight weeks.

For more on this and other chart topping information, get Bruce Spizer’s excellent book, “The Beatles’ Story on Capitol Records”, both the album and singles version, plus all the rest of Bruce’s amazing works at, plus meet Bruce at this weekend’s Fest for Beatles’ Fans in New Jersey.
