PAUL McCARTNEY has released his first single for children
in 20 years, called Tropic Island Hum from his cartoon
short, Wirral the Squirrel.
The new single also includes a 20th Anniversary Edition
of We All Stand Together (The Frog Song). Unfortunately
for U.S. Beatle fans, the limited edition single is only available
by ordering online from the UK, or by listening to Beatle
Brunch the weekend of October 2-3.
Tropic Island Hum is the title track of
a new childrens animation film created by Paul McCartney,
included on the re-release of his animation DVD called, Tales
of Wonder: Music and Animation Classics, from Miramax Home
Entertainment.
Said Paul: I dont often write songs deliberately for
children but we made this new film for kids and the film needed
a song. As a songwriter Im always interested in trying to
write music in different styles, so I took the challenge of trying
to write another one for kids.
The stellar All Starrs include John Waite, Colin Hay,
Paul Carrack, Sheila E., and Mark Rivera. The
DVD was filmed live at Casino Rama in Toronto, Canada, but for the
first time, Ringo allowed a camera crew to follow him throughout
their travels and you can come along for the ride. This DVD is your
ticket to an unscripted, uncensored and unprecedented look at a
Rock Legend at work, and at play, with lots of spontaneous banter
and footage. Join Ringo as he gets a little help from his friends
on Beatles classics like Honey Dont, Boys,
and Yellow Submarine Plus, experience an All-Starr take
on the 80s.
Listen to Beatle Brunch for a special program on the new DVDs and
your chance to win a copy courtesy of Rhino
Records.

Paul's Concert from '93 on DVD
Liberty International Entertainment
Following on the heels of Paul's "Back in the US" DVD
and CD as best-sellers last year, Paul's concert tour from 1993
is now available on DVD. "Paul is Live in Concert on the New
World Tour" features Paul's second major concert tour after
Wings, and the last one to include Linda in the band. The new DVD,
available for the first time, resembles the "Paul is Live"
CD, except the DVD of course, includes additional songs and bonus
material. What's missing from the CD version ("My Love")
is more than made up for with the inclusion of three more Macca
tunes on the DVD, "Let it Be", "Yesterday" and
"Hey Jude" plus impromptu and non-concert music. The sound
has also been mastered in Dolby 5.1 plus includes an audio setting
called "Headphone".
What makes this DVD magic is the bonus material. After the last
concert footage chapter,
you'll find rare and priceless McCartney home video, a lengthy biography,
a photo gallery
and Sir Paul's humanitarian message to the world, all making this
DVD a special one for the
Beatles collector. You'll also find spontaneous backstage footage
of Paul with his band,
including Linda McCartney, Robbie Macintosh, Hamish Stewart, Paul
"Wix" Wickens and
Blair Cunningham. You'll also reminisce with songs from Paul's "Off
the Ground" CD that
he performed on that tour, including "Hope of Deliverance",
"Biker Like an Icon", "Peace in
the Neighborhood", and "Looking for Changes". You
can order
the DVD at Amazon.com and you can hear tracks from the DVD
and win your copy on Beatle Brunch, so listen!

Fans are already excited about the twin disc set.
Current plans are to release two versions of the film one
being the straight concert performance, and the other being a shorter
posh version, all cleaned up and presented with documentary
footage, though with several performances excised. Providing audiences
with an advance peek, the posh version was presented
in a limited theatrical release. In the best George Harrison tradition,
little to zero fanfare accompanied the engagement. In fact, the
newspaper theater listings did not even include the film, but mention
was made on the theaters phone message.

1964 film in the newest DVD format - The Beatles first Feature Film,
in Black and White. A day in the life of the Beatles, as they gallivant
through England. Directed by Richard Lester. Songs include A Hard
Day's Night, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You, If I Fell, And I
Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love, and others. Features A Hard Day's Night
Scrapbook; roundtable discussions with cast, production crew, and
post production crew; access to the DVD destination site; A Hard
Day's Night Website archive; digitally restored soundtrack; French
language track. 6 bonus hours of interviews and fun.
The first and the best of the Beatles movies,
A Hard Day's Night is a hilarious backstage fantasy shot during
the surreal, frenzied days of early Beatlemania. Director Richard
Lester combined the cinema verité techniques of the French
New Wave with the joyous energy of slapstick comedy and Hollywood
musicals to create a movie that, like the Beatles songs it features,
is as dazzling, innovative and fresh as the day it burst into theaters.
This hour-long documentary, narrated by Phil Collins, takes
viewers behind the scenes with archival footage of the Beatles on
the set. Interviews with Lester, screenwriter Alun Owen, producer
Walter Shenson, and many others involved in the making of the film.
The long-awaited re-release, remastered. A n animated
classic for all generations. Digitally enhanced and includes the
HEY BULLDOG sequence never seen in the States. An animated meandering
journey filled with puns and dry British humor, where psychedelic
music videos take precedent over any linear story. Pepperland, that
resembles the album cover for Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
come to life. The swirling animation is a mixture of pop-culture
images and modern artistic styles brought loosely together with
a naïve antiwar message and some clever political commentary.
The Blue Meanies take over Pepperland, draining it of all its color
and music, firing anti-music missiles, bonking people with green
apples, and turning the inhabitants to stone by way of the pointed
finger of a giant white glove. As the only survivor, the Lord Admiral
escapes in the yellow submarine and goes to London to enlist the
help of the Beatles (voiced by actors). The charming and innocent
boys travel through strange worlds and meet bizarre characters,
including the tagalong Nowhere Man. Several blissed-filled musical
sequences and drug references later, the Beatles drive out the Blue
Meanies and restore Pepperland to tranquility armed with only music,
love, and witty remarks.
The recording of Paul's 1997 hit CD Flaming Pie.
Interviews and music throughout this 75 video. Following fast on
his work on The Beatles Anthology, Paul McCartney was inspired to
make his 1997 release, Flaming Pie, a tribute in part to his days
with the Fab Four, and one of the best things he'd done in 20 years.
The songs are laid-back, breezy, and soulful, like Paul has remembered
everything he used to be. We can thank Anthology for that, and also
for this documentary on the making of Flaming Pie, a record of the
making of a record. The title, Flaming Pie, Paul tells us, is from
an article written by John Lennon for the local paper, The Mersey
Beat, in 1961. In the story, John says he had a vision that a man
came to him on a flaming pie and said, "From this day you are
the Beatles with an A." So that's that. The documentary itself
is partway between a music video and a proper documentary, with
Paul getting silly at times, and at other times sounding a poignant
note unwittingly, such as when he sings a love song to Linda. The
sound on the disc is excellent, making this a worthy addition to
the library of any fan of the Beatles or McCartney. With a little
help from his friends: Ringo Starr, Steve Miller, George Martin,
Lenny Kravitz, Linda McCartney, and (surprise) Bill Clinton.
Paul's second major classical release,
commissioned for the EMI Classics Centennial. A symphonic poem, features
the London Symphonic Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Lawrence
Foster.
63 minute DVD version in stereo. Includes stereo
soundtrack, new footage from Lennon Film archive, 8 page background
booklet, and album discography. An instant classic when released
in September 1971, John Lennon's Imagine was the ex-Beatle's
solo masterpiece, and its musical legacy is matched here by priceless
footage of Lennon's creative process, independently edited from
original 16-millimeter footage by producer-director Andrew Solt
with the hands-off approval of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. Incorporating
footage from John and Yoko's original film Imagine (clips of which
were previously included in the 1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon),
Gimme Some Truth presents Lennon, Ono, coproducer Phil Spector,
and a host of gifted musicians in a fluid context of conflict, community,
and craftsmanship.
Bearing witness to every stage of the recording
process, this 63-minute documentary succeeds as a visual diary,
a study of familiar music in its infancy, and a revealing portrait
of the then-30-year-old Lennon--from witty clown to confrontational
perfectionist--at the peak of his post-Fab Four inspiration. The
film's horizons expand with a casual montage of Lennon's celebrity
lifestyle,
including New York party footage (by film theorist
Jonas Mekas) featuring such guests as Miles Davis, Andy Warhol,
and Jack Nicholson. Excerpts of a 1971 BBC interview reveal John
and Yoko at their most thoughtful, discussing socio-sexual issues
that remain compellingly relevant (and the entire 35-minute interview
is included on the DVD edition). But the true value of Gimme Some
Truth remains in the creation of music at the Lennons' estate at
Tittenhurst Park, Ascot, England. The ballad "Imagine"
is followed from rawness to completion, and the track-by-track progress
is highlighted by "Jealous Guy" (after which Lennon playfully
compliments Spector's studio wizardry), and especially "Gimme
Some Truth," which alternates between full mix and isolated
vocal track.
With George Harrison on guitar, Lennon freely
admits that "How Do You Sleep?" is a deliberately "nasty"
criticism of Paul McCartney, but this remarkable film never dwells
on negatives. A precious record of John Lennon's time on earth,
Gimme Some Truth is as honest as it is entertaining. And while purists
may object to the DVD's remastered sound--which was carefully remixed
for Dolby Digital 5.1-channel stereo at Abbey Road studios--few
would deny that this film is an important and illuminating document
that any John Lennon fan will cherish.

For the first time in his solo career, Paul has released a DVD that
candidly reveals the intimate backstage life on the road.
The three-hour rock n road movie takes fans right
inside the acclaimed current tour, giving access to all areas previously
kept private from the public.
The Back In The U.S. DVD also includes performances
of Paul and his new band.

The year is 1964. The Beatles are about to arrive
in the U.S., and young America has one completely wild. Hoping to
be a part of this historical moment are six hysterical New Jersey
teenagers who will stop at nothing to see the Fab Four in person.
Embarking on the first road trip of their young lives, the friends
reach New York City where they are determined to beat the odds and
see the band in their first Ed Sullivan show appearance in this
delightful coming-of-age comedy from Oscar-winning director Robert
Zemeckis.
