Day in the Lyrics Fetch Mega Beatle Bucks Lennon's handwritten lyrics to his Sgt. Pepper classic, "A Day in the Life" was sold for a record $1.2 million. Sothebys thought they'd fetch $500 to $700 thousand. Of the three buyers vying for the piece, the winner was an unidentified American who phoned in the $1.2 million bid. Despite breaking the million-dollar threshold, the handwritten lyrics narrowly missed becoming the highest-priced Beatles lyric sheet to sell at auction: In 2005 the lyrics to "All You Need is Love" went for $1.25 million. These lyrics to "A Day in the Life" were once the property of Beatles road manager Mal Evans and represent the legendary song as a work in progress: There were spelling mistakes and words crossed out. On the back side is a more polished version of "A Day in the Life" written in all capital letters, with a break in Lennon's lyrics where he anticipated McCartney would add his famous "Woke up, fell out of bed." bridge. "A Day in the Life" is regarded as one of the final true collaborations between John & Paul. |

Records With a FanSir Paul McCartney left a fan "deeply touched" by recording a track with him to help him secure a record deal. Paul met singer Glenn Aitkin while he was staying at the Hilton Rangali Island hotel in the Maldives where Glenn was employed as an entertainer. Paul was married to his now ex-wife Heather Mills and was so impressed with Glenn's voice he asked him to sing for them while they dined. It was a dream come true for Glenn played one of his own tracks, and Paul praised it. Glenn told British newspaper The Daily Express, "How can you describe coming face-to-face with the star who inspired you and who is now telling you you've got the talent to be a star yourself?" Paul vowed to help Glenn secure a record contract and agreed to perform on one of the songs. Glenn marveled and decided to raise enough money to record an album he called Extraordinary Lives. Glenn said he was deeply touched that Paul came to the studio and was astonishingly lucky to have had his support. |

Ed Sullivan Really Big ShowMost Beatle fans consider The Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show as the true holy grail of Beatle TV appearances. And while the 4-DVD Ed Sullivan Show set has been available for some time now, Sofa Entertainment, Universal Music is releasing an update: "The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles" will have 13 minutes of previously unreleased footage, including an ad for Beatle dolls and the TV host's interview with the boys, which hasn't been seen since it aired on May 24th 1964. The newly remastered and restored DVDs with audio in 5.1 remix, captures The Beatles in four uncut Sullivan episodes, with original commercials included, that aired in 1964 and 65.
