Some Upcoming Beatles Snacks
On The Brunch!
We hope you enjoyed our Fab Four Flip Sides show this past weekend.
Its always nice to flip the pillow over to the cool side
after heating up the front for so long. Thats exactly
what deejays in the 60s did. When a new Beatles single
was wearing out, or they just wanted new material, theyd
flip over to the B side for songs like This Boy, Ill Get
You and I Saw Her Standing There. And as we flip the calendar
over again this week, weve got a nice selection of up
and coming Beatle Brunch programs.
In the spring
of 1968, the boys went to Rishikesh to study with the Maharishi
Mahesh yogi. Much to our pleasure, they returned with 40 new
songs, many of which ended up on the white album.
Neer has
a more productive 10 hours of studio work been done, than what
was accomplished on February 11th, 1963. The Beatles recorded
10 songs for their upcoming 14 song album in less than a day.
Five weeks later it was in the stores and the boys were well
on their way to Fabdom. Its the songs and stories of the
Please Please Me LP.
The Beatles
shouted that from the mountain top 20 times in their career.
Well take you to the toppermost of the poppermost once
again for Beatle Number Ones, including their domination of
the top 5 on the chart.
Join me
in the Meadowlands for the 35th
Annual Beatles Festival in the New York metro area. Ill
be hosting Beatles Trivia, Name That Beatle Tune, plus taking
your Beatle Brunch requests on The Brunch microphone and on
video for the AfterBrunch. A splendid time is guaranteed for
all! |

Beatles
Chart Topping Record
Still Standing There
As we look back on Beatles history again in this newsletter,
remember when The Beatles held the Top 5 positions on the Billboard
music chart? Its a feat not likely to be duplicated, even
by the Fabs themselves.
For the week ending April 4, 1964, Beatles songs were in positions
1 through 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 record chart (see chart*),
plus the boys held 7 more spots in the hot 100 that week, I
Saw Her Standing There (#31), From Me to
You (#41), Do You Want to Know a Secret
(#46), All My Loving (#58), You
Cant Do That (#65), Roll Over Beethoven
(#68), and Thank You Girl (#79). The Beatles
stayed at number one on the chart until May 9th, when a non-Beatles
song took the number one spot for the first time since February
1st, ending The Beatles 14-week monopoly. The song that finally
squeaked to the top? Louis Armstrongs rendition of Hello
Dolly.
Upon closer examination of the chart, you can see that the top
5 songs were on four different record labels, all competing
for a slice of The Beatles honey pie: Capitol, Tollie, Swan
and Vee Jay. Eventually Capitol would win the record wars and
all future Beatle tunes put out in the U.S. would be released
by this American label, until Apple sprung up in the spring
of 1968, with the first release, Hey Jude,
which lived at the top for 9 straight weeks.
For more on this and other chart topping information, get Bruce
Spizers excellent book, The Beatles
Story on Capitol Records, both the album and singles
version, plus all the rest of Bruces amazing works at
www.beatle.net, plus meet
Bruce at this weekends Fest
for Beatles Fans in New Jersey.
